Also known as John I, was the 10th King of Portugal and the first from the House of Aviz. He ruled from 1385 to 1433 and is celebrated for securing Portugal's independence during the 1383–1385 Crisis, culminating in the decisive Battle of Aljubarrota. His reign marked the beginning of the Age of Discoveries, with significant maritime exploration, including the conquest of Ceuta in 1415. ## The Battle of Atoleiros (1384)

## The Battle of Aljubarrota (1385)

## Duarte I (1391–1438)

## Afonso V (1432–1481)
